Unpacking and Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, flat surface near a power outlet.

  1. Remove all packaging materials and tapes from the printer.
  2. Install the toner cartridge: Open the front cover, remove the cartridge from its packaging, shake gently, and insert until it clicks.
  3. Load paper: Adjust the paper guides in the input tray and load up to 150 sheets of plain paper.
  4. Connect the power cord to the printer and plug into a grounded AC outlet.

WARNING! Do not touch the green drum surface of the toner cartridge. Avoid placing the printer in direct sunlight or humid environments.

First-Time Setup

Power on the printer; follow the on-screen prompts on the control panel or computer.

  1. Install software: Insert the provided CD or download drivers from the Canon website.
  2. Connect to computer: Use USB cable or set up wireless connection via the control panel menu.
  3. Align cartridge: Print a test page and follow alignment instructions if prompted.

  1. Wireless: Menu > Network > Wireless LAN Setup > Select network > Enter password.
  2. Wired: Connect Ethernet cable; Menu > Network > Wired LAN > Enable.
