Unpacking and Installation

Remove all packaging materials. Place printer on a stable, flat surface near a power outlet.

  1. Install ink tanks: Open front cover, remove protective tape from tanks, insert until they click.
  2. Load paper: Adjust rear paper guide, load up to 100 sheets of plain paper.
  3. Connect power: Plug power cord into printer and wall outlet.
  4. Power on: Press POWER button; printer will initialize.

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink tank contacts. Keep printer horizontal during setup.

Initial Setup and Software Installation

Install printer software on your computer for full functionality.

  1. Insert Setup CD or download software from Canon website.
  2. Follow on-screen instructions to install drivers and utilities.
  3. Connect printer via USB cable during setup, or set up wireless connection.

CAUTION! Use only Canon GI-81 ink bottles. Do not mix colors.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Perform regular maintenance via printer software or control panel.

Nozzle Check: Print test pattern to verify print quality. Print Head Cleaning: Clears clogged nozzles (uses ink). Deep Cleaning: For persistent clogs. Waste Ink Pad: Monitor via software; may require service when full.
