Unpacking and Contents

Carefully unpack the printer and verify all components are present.

  1. Remove printer from box and place on a stable, flat surface near a power outlet.
  2. Remove all tape and protective materials from inside and outside the printer.
  3. Check contents: Printer, power cord, set of 4 ink bottles (Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow), starter paper pack, setup guide, software CD, telephone cable (for fax).
  4. Keep packaging for future transportation or service.

WARNING! Do not tilt or shake the printer excessively during unpacking to avoid ink leakage.

Initial Hardware Setup

Prepare the printer for first use by installing ink and connecting power.

  1. Open the front cover and ink tank compartment.
  2. Remove caps from ink bottles and fill corresponding tanks to the indicated lines. Do not overfill.
  3. Close the ink tank cover and front cover.
  4. Connect the power cord to the printer and plug into a 120V AC outlet.
  5. Press the POWER button to turn on the printer. The LCD will light up.
  6. Allow the printer to complete initial setup and ink charging (may take several minutes).

CAUTION! Handle ink bottles carefully to avoid spills. Use in a well-ventilated area.

Software Installation

Install drivers and utilities on your computer for full functionality.

Network Setup

Connect the printer to your wireless or wired network.

  1. Wireless Setup: Use the LCD control panel. Navigate to Settings > Wireless LAN setup and follow the guided setup to select your network and enter the password.
  2. Wired Setup: Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the Ethernet port on the printer.
  3. Wi-Fi Direct: Enable from the control panel to connect devices directly to the printer without a router.
  4. Verify Connection: Print a network configuration report from the maintenance menu to confirm IP address and connection status.

Tip: Place the printer within range of your Wi-Fi router for stable connection.

Loading Paper and Ink

Load paper into the rear tray and refill ink when low.

  1. Paper Loading: Adjust the rear paper guide to fit the paper size. Load up to 100 sheets of plain paper (face up).
  2. Special Media: For envelopes or photo paper, use the rear tray and adjust guides accordingly.
  3. Ink Refilling: Open the front cover and ink tank compartment. Add ink of the corresponding color when level is low. Do not mix colors.
  4. Ink Level Check: View ink levels on the LCD screen or via the Canon PRINT app.

WARNING! Use only genuine Canon ink to avoid clogs and damage. Do not touch the print head.

Basic Operations

Perform printing, scanning, copying, and faxing.

Printing: Send print jobs from your computer or mobile device. Select the Canon G7020 as the printer.

Scanning: Place document on flatbed or in ADF. Use the Scan button on the printer or software on your computer.

Copying: Use the control panel to select copy settings (color, number of copies, size) and press Start.
