Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, flat surface near power outlet.

  1. Install ink cartridges: Open front cover, remove protective tape from cartridges, insert into correct slots until they click.
  2. Load paper: Adjust paper guide in rear tray, load paper print-side down.
  3. Connect power: Plug AC adapter into printer and wall outlet.
  4. Connect to computer: Use USB cable to connect printer to PC/Mac.
  5. Install software: Insert CD-ROM, follow on-screen instructions to install drivers and software.

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink cartridge contacts. Keep printer level during operation.

First-Time Configuration

  1. Use genuine Canon ink cartridges only.

Tip: Store unused paper in dry place to prevent curling.

Printing Documents & Photos

Supports documents, web pages, photos.

  1. Select file to print from application (File > Print).
  2. Choose "Canon MP495 series" as printer.
  3. Click Properties to set paper size, type, print quality.
  4. For photos: Select "Photo Paper" as media type, "High" quality.
  5. Click Print.
  6. For direct photo printing: Connect PictBridge camera to USB port, use camera controls.

WARNING! Do not pull paper during printing. Allow prints to dry before handling.

Scanning & Copying

Scanning: Place document face-down on scanner glass. Use Solution Menu software to scan to file or email.

Copying: Place document on glass or in Automatic Document Feeder (if equipped). Use control panel to set number of copies, color/black, reduce/enlarge. Press Color or Black copy button.

Quick Copy: For single copy, place document and press Color copy button (color copy) or Black copy button (black & white copy).

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug before cleaning exterior. Use soft, dry cloth; do not use alcohol or solvents.

Print Head Cleaning: If print quality declines, run nozzle check from maintenance tab in printer software. Follow with print head cleaning if needed.

Scanner Glass: Clean with soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water.

CAUTION! Do not touch scanner glass with fingers. Do not spray cleaner directly on printer.
