Unpacking and Setup

Remove printer from box and inspect contents.

  1. Remove all tape and packing materials from printer exterior and interior.
  2. Place printer on a stable, flat surface near power outlet.
  3. Ensure adequate ventilation around the printer.
  4. Install paper in the rear paper feed tray.

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink cartridge contacts. Handle with care to avoid damage.

Installing Ink Cartridges

Install genuine Canon PGI-280 (black) and CLI-281 (color) cartridges.

  1. Open printer cover; print head carrier moves to center.
  2. Remove cartridge from packaging; gently remove protective tape.
  3. Insert black cartridge into left slot, color into right slot until click.
  4. Close printer cover; printer will initialize ink system.

CAUTION! Do not turn off printer during initialization. Use only Canon cartridges.

Connecting to Power and Network

Tip: Ensure network password is available for Wi-Fi setup.

Installing Software and Drivers

Install Canon software from included CD or download from website.

  1. Insert CD or run downloaded installer.
  2. Follow on-screen instructions; select connection type (USB/Network).
  3. Register printer for warranty and support.

Copying: Place original on glass or in ADF. Use control panel to select copies, darkness, size. Press Color or Black Start.

Scanning: Install Canon Scan Utility. Place original; select scan destination (computer, email, USB). Adjust resolution (up to 1200 dpi).

Fax Functions

Connect telephone line to LINE port.

  1. Program speed dial numbers via control panel.
  2. Place document in ADF or on flatbed.
  3. Dial number manually or use speed dial.
  4. Press Start; monitor transmission.
  5. Receive faxes automatically; print when received.

Note: Ensure telephone line is active and connected properly.

Maintenance and Cleaning
