Unpacking and Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove all tape and protective materials from printer exterior and interior.
  2. Connect power cord to printer and wall outlet.
  3. Press POWER button to turn on printer.
  4. Install ink cartridges (see Section 3).
  5. Load paper into rear paper tray.
  6. Install software from CD-ROM or download from Canon website.

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink cartridge contacts. Keep printer horizontal during setup.

Installing Ink Cartridges

Ensure printer is on and POWER indicator is lit.

  1. Open printer cover; print head carrier moves to center.
  2. Remove new cartridge from packaging; gently remove protective tape.
  3. Insert black cartridge (PG-745) into left slot, color cartridge (CL-746) into right slot until click.
  4. Close printer cover.
  5. Printer will initialize; wait until POWER indicator stops flashing.

CAUTION! Do not turn off printer during initialization. Use only genuine Canon cartridges.

Front Panel: POWER button, POWER indicator (green), ALARM indicator (orange), Wi-Fi indicator (blue).

Indicators: POWER steady (on), flashing (processing/initializing). ALARM steady (error), flashing (ink low/out). Wi-Fi steady (connected), flashing (setup/communicating).

Connecting to Computer/Network

USB: Connect USB cable to computer and printer, install driver. Wi-Fi: Use WPS or manual setup.

  1. Wi-Fi via WPS: Press and hold Wi-Fi button on printer until indicator flashes. Press WPS button on router within 2 minutes.
  2. Wi-Fi manually: Install software, follow on-screen instructions to select network and enter password.
  3. Verify connection: Wi-Fi indicator stops flashing and remains lit.

Tip: Place printer within range of Wi-Fi router. Avoid obstacles.

Printing Documents and Photos

Supports various paper types: plain, photo, envelopes.

  1. Load paper: Adjust paper guide in rear tray.
  2. Select print settings via software: Paper type, size, quality, borderless (for photos).
  3. Print: From application, select PIXMA MG3600, click Print.
  4. For photo printing: Use genuine Canon photo paper for best results.
  5. Cancel print job: Press STOP/RESET button (if equipped) or cancel via computer.

WARNING! Do not touch printed output until ink dries. Use recommended paper.

Scanning and Copying

Scanning: Place document face down on scanner glass, align to corner. Use Canon IJ Scan Utility or MP Driver to scan.

Copying: Place document, press Color or Black copy button (if equipped) or use software. Adjust number of copies, quality in settings.

Note: For best copy quality, clean scanner glass and use original documents.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug power cord before cleaning. Exterior: Use soft, dry cloth. Scanner glass: Use lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water.

Print head cleaning: Use Canon IJ Printer Utility > Maintenance > Clean Print Head.

Nozzle check: Print test pattern to verify print quality.

CAUTION! Do not use alcohol, benzene, or abrasive cleaners. Do not spray liquids directly on printer.
