Unpacking and Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, flat surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove all tape and protective materials from printer exterior and interior.
  2. Connect power cord to printer and wall outlet.
  3. Press POWER button to turn on printer; wait for initialization.
  4. Install ink cartridges (see Section 3).
  5. Load paper (see Section 4).
  6. Install software from CD or download from Canon website.

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink cartridge contacts. Keep printer horizontal during setup.

Installing Ink Cartridges

Ensure printer is on and stopped. Open front cover; print head carrier moves to center.

  1. Remove new ink cartridge from packaging; gently remove protective tape.
  2. Insert black cartridge (PGI-570) into left slot, color cartridge (CLI-571) into right slot.
  3. Press each cartridge down until it clicks into place.
  4. Close front cover; printer will begin ink charging (approx. 2 minutes).

CAUTION! Do not turn off printer during ink charging. Use only genuine Canon ink cartridges.

Loading Paper

Use plain paper, photo paper, or envelopes. Adjust paper guide to match paper width.

  1. Pull out paper output tray and extension.
  2. Open paper support and rear tray.
  3. Fan paper stack; load into rear tray print side down, short edge first.
  4. Slide paper guide against paper stack without bending.
  5. Adjust paper thickness lever if using envelopes or thick paper.

Tip: Do not overload tray (max 100 sheets plain paper). Ensure paper is flat and not curled.

Connecting to Computer and Network

USB Connection: Use included USB cable to connect printer to computer during software installation.

Wi-Fi Setup:

  1. Press and hold Wi-Fi button on printer until orange lamp flashes.
  2. On computer, run Canon software and select "Wireless connection".
  3. Follow on-screen instructions to connect to your network (SSID and password required).
  4. Wi-Fi lamp lights blue when connected.

Note: For WPS, press Wi-Fi button, then press WPS button on router within 2 minutes.

Printing Documents and Photos

Ensure printer is on, paper loaded, and ink cartridges installed.

  1. Open document or photo on computer.
  2. Select File > Print; choose "Canon MG3600 series" as printer.
  3. Select paper size, type, and print quality in printer properties.
  4. Click Print; monitor status via printer lights.
  5. For borderless photos, select "Borderless" in page setup and use photo paper.

Control Panel Copy: Press Black or Color copy button; adjust number of copies with repeated presses.

Scanning and Copying

Scanning to Computer:

  1. Place document or photo on scanner glass face down.
  2. Open Canon scanning software (e.g., IJ Scan Utility).
  3. Select scan type (PDF, Photo, etc.) and resolution.
  4. Click Scan; image saves to specified folder.

Copying:

  1. Place original on scanner glass.
  2. Press Black or Color copy button on printer.
  3. Adjust number of copies (1-9) by pressing button repeatedly.
  4. Printer starts copying; output appears in paper tray.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Print Head Alignment: Run alignment via printer software if print quality declines.

Nozzle Check: Print test pattern from maintenance tab to check for clogged nozzles.

Cleaning Print Head: Perform deep cleaning via software if nozzles are clogged (uses ink).

Exterior Cleaning: Unplug printer; wipe with soft, dry cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents.

CAUTION! Do not touch scanner glass with fingers; clean with soft, lint-free cloth if dirty.
