Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Install ink cartridges: Open front cover, insert cartridges into respective slots until they click.
  2. Load paper: Adjust rear paper guide, load plain paper into rear tray.
  3. Connect power: Plug AC adapter into printer and wall outlet.
  4. Power on: Press POWER button, follow on-screen prompts.
  5. Install software: Insert CD or download from Canon website, follow installation wizard.
  6. Connect to computer: Use USB cable or set up wireless/Ethernet connection.

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink cartridge contacts. Keep printer horizontal during setup.

Fax Functions

  1. Send fax: Place document, press FAX, enter number with keypad, press START.
  2. Receive fax: Set to Auto mode for automatic reception, or Manual to answer manually.
  3. Program numbers: MENU > Fax Settings > Speed Dial > register numbers with names.
  4. Fax report: Print transmission confirmation from Fax Settings.
  5. Memory reception: Stores received faxes if paper or ink runs out.

CAUTION! Ensure phone line is properly connected to LINE port, not PHONE port.

Maintenance & Ink Replacement

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.

  1. Replace ink cartridges: When low ink warning appears, open front cover, press cartridge latch, remove old cartridge, insert new one firmly.
  2. Clean print head: MENU > Maintenance > Clean Print Head (if print quality declines).
  3. Align print head: MENU > Maintenance > Align Print Head after ink replacement.
  4. Clean scanner: Use soft, lint-free cloth on glass and ADF rollers.
  5. Nozzle check: Print test pattern to verify ink ejection.
