Unpacking and Setup
Remove all packaging materials and tapes from printer.
- Place printer on a flat, stable surface near power outlet.
- Connect power cord to printer and wall outlet.
- Turn on printer using POWER button.
- Follow on-screen prompts to select language and region.
- Load paper into rear paper tray.
WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink cartridge contacts. Keep printer horizontal during setup.
Installing Ink Cartridges
Install all four ink cartridges before first use.
- Open front cover; print head carrier moves to center.
- Remove ink cartridge from packaging; gently remove protective tape.
- Insert black cartridge (PGI-280) into left slot, color cartridges (CLI-281) into right slots.
- Press each cartridge until it clicks into place.
- Close front cover; printer will begin initial ink charging (approx. 2 minutes).
CAUTION! Do not turn off printer during ink charging. Use only genuine Canon ink cartridges.
Connecting to Network
Connect printer to your wireless network for wireless printing.
- Press SETUP button on printer control panel.
- Use arrow buttons to select "Wireless LAN setup" and press OK.
- Select "Standard setup" and press OK.
- Select your network name (SSID) from list and press OK.
- Enter network password using on-screen keyboard; press OK.
- Wait for connection confirmation message.
Tip: For WPS connection, select "WPS (Push button)" during setup.
Printing from Devices
Print from computer, smartphone, or tablet.
- Computer: Install printer software from included CD or download from Canon website.
- Windows/macOS: Add printer via network detection.
- iOS (AirPrint): Select printer from Share menu in supported apps.
- Android (Canon PRINT app): Download app from Google Play Store; follow in-app setup.
- Wi-Fi Direct: Connect device directly to printer without router.
Note: Ensure device and printer are on same network for wireless printing.
Copying and Scanning
Use control panel or software for copy/scan functions.
- Copying: Place original on scanner glass or in ADF. Press COPY button. Select settings (color, paper size, copies). Press Color or Black button to start.
- Scanning to Computer: Install Canon software. Press SCAN button on printer. Select scan destination (computer).
- Scanning to USB: Insert USB flash drive into front port. Press SCAN button and select "Scan to USB".
ADF Capacity: Up to 35 sheets (20 lb/75 gsm paper).
Fax Function
Connect telephone line to use fax features.
- Connect telephone line cable to LINE port on back of printer.
- Press FAX button to enter fax mode.
- Place document in ADF or on scanner glass.
- Dial recipient number using numeric keypad or speed dial.
- Press Color or Black button to send fax.
- Program speed dial numbers via FAX menu for frequent contacts.
Fax Resolution: Standard, Fine, Super Fine. Memory capacity: Approx. 100 pages.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular maintenance ensures optimal print quality.
- Print Head Alignment: Run automatically when cartridges replaced. Manual via Maintenance menu.
- Nozzle Check: Print test pattern via Maintenance menu to check for clogged nozzles.
- Print Head Cleaning: Perform via Maintenance menu if print quality declines (uses ink).
- Exterior Cleaning: Unplug printer. Wipe with soft, dry cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents.
CAUTION! Do not touch print head nozzles. Allow printer to complete cleaning cycles.
