Unpacking and Installation

Unpack and inspect all contents. Place printer on a stable, flat surface near a power outlet.

  1. Remove all tape and packaging materials from inside and outside the printer.
  2. Connect the power cord to the printer and plug into a 120V AC outlet.
  3. Install the ink cartridges: Open front cover, wait for print head to move to center, insert cartridges into correct slots, close cover.
  4. Load paper into the rear paper feed tray (adjust guide).
  5. Install print head alignment sheet when prompted.

WARNING! Do not touch the print head or electrical contacts. Handle ink cartridges carefully to avoid leaks.

Initial Setup and Configuration

Power on the printer; follow on-screen or software prompts.

  1. Install software: Use the provided CD-ROM or download latest drivers from Canon website.

  2. Copying: Place original on scanner glass or in ADF, press Copy button on computer software or use printer's front panel if available, select options, start.
  3. Scanning: Place original, open scanning software (Canon IJ Scan Utility), select scan mode (Auto, Document, Photo), choose destination and format, scan.

WARNING! Do not open covers or remove paper during printing. Use recommended paper to avoid jams.

Ink Cartridge Management

Ink cartridges: PG-245 (Black), CL-246 (Color Tri-pack). Monitor ink levels via software or LCD alerts.

Replacing ink cartridges:

  1. Open front cover; print head moves to center.
  2. Press cartridge lock lever down to release old cartridge; remove.
  3. Remove protective tape from new cartridge; insert into correct slot until click.
  4. Close front cover; printer will begin ink charging (may take several minutes).

Note: Use only genuine Canon ink cartridges for optimal performance and to avoid damage.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Unplug printer before cleaning exterior. Use soft, dry cloth; do not use alcohol or solvents.

Print Head Maintenance: Use printer software to perform nozzle checks, print head alignment, and deep cleaning if print quality declines.

Paper Jam Clearing: Turn off printer, open rear cover and ADF, gently remove jammed paper by pulling in direction of paper path.

CAUTION! Do not touch the print head nozzles. Avoid touching internal gears or rollers.
