Unpacking and Setup

Remove printer from box and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface near power outlet.

  1. Remove all tape and packaging materials from inside and outside.
  2. Connect power cord to printer and plug into AC outlet.
  3. Turn on printer using power button on control panel.
  4. Load paper into rear tray (adjust guides).
  5. Install ink cartridges (see next section).

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink cartridge contacts. Keep printer horizontal during setup.

Installing Ink Cartridges

Use only Canon PGI-280 (black) and CLI-281 (color) cartridges.

  1. Open front cover; print head carrier moves to center.
  2. Remove cartridge from packaging; gently remove protective tape.
  3. Insert black cartridge into left slot, color into right slot until click.
  4. Close front cover; printer will initialize (may take several minutes).
  5. Print nozzle check pattern from maintenance menu to verify installation.

CAUTION! Do not turn off printer during initialization. Install cartridges immediately after unpacking.

Control Panel: Power button, LCD screen, Navigation arrows, OK, Stop, Color/Black copy buttons, Fax start button.

Printing from Devices

Supports computer, smartphone, and tablet printing.

  1. Computer: Install drivers from Canon website or included CD.
  2. Mobile: Install Canon PRINT app; connect to same Wi-Fi as printer.
  3. AirPrint (iOS): Select printer from Share menu.
  4. Mopria (Android): Enable in settings, select printer.
  5. Cloud: Print via Google Cloud Print (if supported).
  6. Direct: Use Wi-Fi Direct from printer's wireless menu.

Note: For first computer print, run nozzle check to ensure optimal quality.

Copy, Scan & Fax Functions

Copy: Place original on glass or in ADF. Press Color or Black button. Adjust copies (1-99), density, paper size via menu.

Scan: Install Canon Scan Utility on computer. Place original, press Scan button on printer or use software.

Fax: Connect phone line to LINE port. Set date/time. Dial number manually or use speed dial. Press Fax Start button.

Memory: Store up to 100 fax numbers; redial last number.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug before cleaning exterior. Use soft, dry cloth; avoid liquids.

  1. Clean exterior: Damp cloth (water only), then dry.
  2. Clean scanner glass: Use lint-free cloth and glass cleaner.
  3. Clean print head: Use maintenance menu for automatic cleaning.
  4. Replace cartridges: When ink low message appears.
  5. Clear paper jams: Open rear cover, gently remove paper.

CAUTION! Do not use alcohol or abrasive cleaners. Turn off before cleaning.
