Unpacking and Setup

Remove all packaging materials. Place on a flat, stable surface near a power outlet.

  1. Remove tape: Remove all protective tapes from inside and outside the printer.
  2. Connect power: Plug the power cord into the printer and then into a wall outlet.
  3. Power on: Press the POWER button. The POWER lamp lights.
  4. Initialize: Wait for the printer to initialize (may take a few minutes).

WARNING! Do not touch the print head or ink tank contacts. Keep printer horizontal during setup.

Installing Ink Tanks

Install the provided setup ink tanks before first use.

  1. Open cover: Open the front cover. The print head carrier moves to the center.
  2. Prepare tank: Remove ink tank from packaging. Gently remove the orange protective cap.
  3. Insert tank: Align the tank with its color-coded slot and push down firmly until it clicks.
  4. Repeat: Install all four tanks (Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow).
  5. Close cover: Close the front cover. The printer starts charging the ink system.

CAUTION! Do not turn off the printer during ink charging. This may take several minutes.

Connecting to Network

Connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network for wireless printing.

  1. Prepare: Ensure your router is on and you know the network name (SSID) and password.
  2. Access Wi-Fi setup: Press the Wi-Fi button on the control panel. The Wi-Fi lamp flashes.
  3. Connect via WPS: If your router has a WPS button, press it within 2 minutes. The printer connects automatically.
  4. Connect via manual entry: Use the Canon PRINT app on your smartphone/tablet to guide setup, or connect via USB cable to a computer and run the setup software.
  5. Confirm: The Wi-Fi lamp stays lit when connected.

Tip: For a direct connection without a router, use Wi-Fi Direct from the printer's settings.

Printing from Devices

Print from computers, smartphones, and tablets.

Copying and Scanning

Copying:

  1. Load document: Place original face down on the scanner glass or face up in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).
  2. Adjust settings: Use control panel buttons to select color/B&W, number of copies, paper size.
  3. Start: Press the Color or Black copy button.

Scanning:

  1. Install software: Ensure "Canon IJ Scan Utility" or "Canon My Image Garden" is installed on your computer.
  2. Place original: On scanner glass or in ADF.
  3. Start scan: Press the Scan button on the printer, or initiate from computer software.

  3. Cleaning Exterior: Unplug printer. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents.
  4. Cleaning Scanner Glass: Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water. Dry thoroughly.
