Alignment Features

Automatic Optical Alignment

Canon's advanced optical sensor automatically reads alignment patterns and adjusts print head positioning for perfect registration without manual intervention.

Manual Fine Adjustment

When automatic alignment isn't sufficient, manual adjustment mode allows precise control over print head positioning in increments of 1/7200th of an inch.

Nozzle Check Utility

Integrated nozzle check pattern helps identify clogged nozzles before alignment, ensuring only functioning nozzles are used for alignment calibration.

Multi-Color Alignment

Separate alignment for CMYK colors plus photo inks (gray, red, blue) ensures perfect color registration for both documents and photographic prints.

Smart Alignment Technology

Automatically suggests alignment when print quality degrades or after cartridge replacement, maintaining optimal print quality continuously.

Bi-Directional Alignment

Calibrates both forward and backward printing directions to ensure consistent quality regardless of print head movement direction.

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Alignment fails repeatedly Dirty scanner glass, clogged nozzles, low ink Clean scanner glass, run nozzle check, ensure adequate ink levels
Misaligned colors Print head mechanical issue, incorrect cartridge installation Reinstall cartridges, run manual alignment, check for obstructions
Cannot print alignment sheet Paper jam, empty ink cartridges, communication error Clear paper path, replace empty cartridges, restart printer
Scanner cannot read pattern Dirty scanner, incorrect paper placement, poor print quality Clean scanner components, align paper correctly, improve print quality
Vertical/horizontal lines misaligned Print head carriage issue, encoder strip dirty Clean encoder strip, check carriage movement, run advanced alignment
Alignment not saving Power interruption, memory error, firmware issue Ensure stable power, update firmware, reset printer settings
