Unpacking and Installation

Remove all packaging materials and protective tapes.

  1. Place printer on a stable, flat surface near a power outlet.
  2. Install ink cartridges: Open front cover, insert PG-245 and CL-246 cartridges until they click.
  3. Load paper: Adjust paper guides in rear tray for letter-size paper.
  4. Connect power cord and turn on printer.

WARNING! Do not touch print head or ink cartridge contacts. Keep printer upright during installation.

Initial Setup and Configuration

Follow on-screen prompts after powering on.

  1. Install print head alignment sheet when prompted.
  2. Connect to computer: Use USB cable or set up wireless connection via WPS or manual setup.
  3. Install drivers: Insert CD or download from Canon website, follow installation wizard.
  4. Register product online for support and updates.

CAUTION! Ensure proper ventilation; do not block vents. Use genuine Canon ink cartridges.

Control Panel and Functions

Printing and Scanning

  1. Print from computer: Select PIXMA MX490 as printer, adjust settings (quality, paper type).
  2. Copy: Place document face down on scanner glass, press Color or Black Copy button.
  3. Scan: Use Canon software or press Scan button to scan to computer or memory card.

  1. Open front cover, wait for print head to move to center.
  2. Press cartridge release lever, remove old cartridge.

Care & Cleaning
