Installation & Unpacking

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on a stable, level surface near a power outlet.

  1. Remove all tape and packaging materials from printer exterior and interior.
  2. Install Ink Tanks: Open cover, remove protective caps, insert each tank into correct color slot until it clicks.
  3. Load Paper: Adjust paper guides in rear tray, load plain paper.
  4. Connect Power: Plug power cord into printer and wall outlet.

WARNING! Do not tilt or shake printer after ink tanks are installed to prevent leaks. Keep printer horizontal.

First-Time Setup

Power on printer; follow on-screen prompts on LCD.

  1. Initial Ink Charging: Printer will prime ink system (takes several minutes). Do not turn off.
  2. Align Print Head: Print alignment sheet when prompted.
  3. Install Software: On computer, insert CD or download from Canon website. Follow installer for driver and utilities.

CAUTION! Use only Canon GI-90 series ink. Wipe spills immediately. Do not overfill.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug before cleaning exterior. Use soft, dry cloth; for stubborn stains, dampen cloth with water.

Print Head Cleaning: Via LCD MAINTENANCE menu if print quality declines.

CAUTION! Do not use alcohol, solvents, or abrasive cleaners. Do not spray liquids directly on printer.
